CNN —“Saturday Night Live” longtime executive producer Lorne Michaels has a few ideas about who may be best fit to succeed him when the comedic visionary retires. One of those potential successors could be esteemed “SNL” alum Tina Fey, whose name came up while Michaels was talking to Entertainment Tonight on the Emmys red carpet on Monday. “It could easily be Tina Fey,” he told the publication. Michaels, 79, has been affiliated with “Saturday Night Live” since creating it in 1975. Fey certainly knows enough about the ins and outs of “SNL” to join the ranks at the top, herself.

Can a movie musical based on a Broadway musical based on a film comedy that in turn was based on a parenting book be any good? Sure — if only because the writer-producer Tina Fey and the producer Lorne Michaels have made sure that little has changed in their money-printing property since the first movie hit theaters in 2004. It’s not especially tart and is undeniably over-padded, but its charms and ingratiating likability remain intact. There, she meets nerds and jocks, alphas and betas, and attracts the notice of the queen bee, the aptly named Regina (Reneé Rapp, who played the role on Broadway). Flanked by her vassals, Karen (Avantika) and Gretchen (Bebe Wood), Regina reigns supreme at school where, as the student body’s most attentively studied subject, she is feared, desired and loathed, at times simultaneously.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The newest group of Kennedy Center honorees, including comedian Billy Crystal and actor Queen Latifah, are being feted Sunday night at a star-studded event commemorating their lifetime achievement in arts and entertainment. Opera singer Renée Fleming, music star Barry Gibb and prolific hitmaker Dionne Warwick also are being honored at the black-tie gala. Bill Cosby received both honors, but they were rescinded in 2018 following his sexual assault conviction, which later was overturned. Along with his late brothers Robin and Maurice, the trio launched a nearly unmatched string of hits that defined a generation of music. Fleming sang the national anthem while Latifah performed “America the Beautiful.”

Just over a week after thousands of television and movie writers took to picket lines, Netflix is feeling the heat. Late Wednesday night, Netflix abruptly said it was canceling a major Manhattan showcase that it was staging for advertisers next week. Instead of an in-person event held at the fabled Paris Theater, which the streaming company leases, Netflix said the presentation would now be virtual. He was scheduled to be honored alongside the “Saturday Night Live” eminence Lorne Michaels. In a statement, Mr. Sarandos explained that he withdrew because the potential demonstrations could overshadow the event.
CNN —Give Pete Davidson a bit of credit for making himself the least interesting part of a series about being Pete Davidson. Having already played a version of himself in the Peacock movie “The King of Staten Island,” Davidson certainly doesn’t seem overly concerned about stretching his acting chops. Davidson is introduced Google-ing himself, chafing at living in the public eye while residing (uncomfortably at times, as an early sequence demonstrates) with his mom. “Bupkis” is at times very funny, but when it comes to getting to know more about Pete Davidson, the show’s admirable qualities are more in spite of that than because of it. “Bupkis” premieres May 4 on Peacock.

NEW YORK, April 25 (Reuters) - Months after his departure from “The Daily Show" in late 2022, comedian Trevor Noah won a Webby Award for comedy in the “America’s Door Problem” segment of the late-night talk show, in which he pushes for gun control and criticizes policymakers’ response to mass shootings. In Noah's segment, he skewers the beliefs of some conservatives that books, critical race theory, video games and rap music lead to gun violence. “Yeah, that’s right, that’s how evil critical race theory is — it's only been around for like a year and it’s already caused three decades of school shootings,” Noah said. Some notable past winners include talk show host Stephen Colbert, comedian Sarah Silverman, television producer Lorne Michaels and French filmmaker Michel Gondry. CNN —Dave Chappelle’s representative is pushing back on a report that claimed “Saturday Night Live” writers were staging a boycott ahead of his hosting the show this weekend. On Wednesday, The New York Post, citing an anonymous source, reported writers on the show were going to sit out on the episode. “We’ve seen nothing to support media reports of a writer’s boycott,” Chappelle’s rep told CNN in a statement. I don’t know where, but people are seeing it. I don’t know what they thought that movie was meant to be marketing-wise, but it was a little gem for us. He basically said, Pay me or I’m going to tell your wife. Let’s do another one.” Ray said, “OK, what do you want me to do differently?” The director said: “I don’t know. I don’t know that there’s any way to communicate that to you.
Lourd, 61, isn't a household name, but he wields a stunning amount of influence in Hollywood. Lourd's Hollywood clients aren't just A-listers, they're A+-listers: Brad Pitt. An old-fashioned talent agent who loves discussing old movies and doesn't mind pointing out the flaws in his own clients' work, Lourd has become arguably the most powerful person in Hollywood. "He's one of the most powerful people in the history of Hollywood," said Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos. But Lourd's clients are such bankable stars that it's equally important for Hollywood executives to be friendly with him as it is beneficial for Lourd and CAA.
